The Team of the Bloodthirsty Mullahs, Cursed by the Iranian People

Three goals disallowed by a hair’s breadth, a missed penalty, five goalposts. This is no accident: it is a nation withdrawing its blessing from those who wear its stolen name.

There are evenings when the ball itself seems to refuse to go in, when fate appears to stand guard before the goal. We call it bad luck. But when bad luck repeats itself, match after match, with the stubbornness of a verdict, we must find another name for it. That name is on the lips of the man in this video, and it is in the heart of the Iranian people: this is not a team cursed by the heavens, it is a team cursed by its own.

“The curse of this people has you by the throat” — offside by a hair, a missed penalty, five goalposts. Video subtitled in French.

Look: three goals wiped out for an offside as thin as a hair, a penalty flung into the clouds, five times the post that returns fate to sender. The heavens, they say, are blind. But a people is not. It knows very well who, on those jerseys, has confiscated its Lion and stitched in its place the emblem of its jailers. You do not play football on the shoulders of an entire country without that country, one day, withdrawing its breath.

For the true curse is not measured in millimetres of offside: it is measured in stolen years. It is not five goalposts that weigh upon this squad, it is forty-six years of lies worn like a bib. A team may have legs; it also needs a people behind it. And that people has turned away — not from Iran, never from Iran — but from those who claim to represent it with their mouths full of the blood of its children.

The day fate changes sides

Let the bloodthirsty Mullahs understand this: you do not win a stadium once you have lost a nation. The stands may be full, they are deserted by the soul. Every missed shot is a referendum; every goalpost, a ballot the people slips into the urn of the heavens.

Fate will change sides on the day these jerseys cease to bear the banner of the killers and raise at last our own — the Lion and Sun, gold upon the night. On that day the goals will go in, not because the heavens will have forgiven, but because a people will have reclaimed what is theirs. Until then, the curse will hold firm: it is not a fatality, it is a will.

A team does not die of a missed penalty. It dies of having betrayed those who were meant to love it.
